Hello Trailblazer Nation! I am thrilled to join Utah Tech University as its new Assistant General Counsel and am grateful for the chance to serve this remarkable community. Having grown up in Arizona, I feel a connection to St. George—quite literally, thanks to my ancestor, Jacob Hamblin, one of the area’s early settlers. In other words, Southern Utah feels like coming home (only with better views and fewer cactus-related injuries).

After graduating law school, I began my career as a public defender, litigating felony and misdemeanor cases, representing clients in appeals before the Utah Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, and managing the defense team in the Fourth District Mental Health Court. Those years fostered a deep appreciation for the complexities of the justice system, a passion for helping people through their darkest moments, and an indebtedness for good coffee during trial prep. Eventually, I accepted a position with the Office of General Counsel for the Utah State Courts where my primary role involved representing judges and court administrators in state and federal court, developing policy and procedures at all court levels, and supervising the administrative operations of the Judiciary.

Outside the office, my spare time goes into rock climbing and flying small aircraft—two activities that, to some, might suggest I am unreasonably confident in ropes, carabiners, and decades-old engines all doing exactly what they are supposed to do. I feel incredibly fortunate to have Zion National Park, home to the finest sandstone big walls on the planet, in my backyard. And I cannot wait to fly over the desert landscapes of Southern Utah, where the views are breathtaking and the turbulence keeps me humble. St. George is truly the world’s greatest playground, and I welcome all the adventures ahead and the privilege to serve Utah Tech University’s world-class community.
